It’s official: The Devil Wears Prada really is getting a sequel. And it began production basically the day Anna Wintour stepped down from her EIC title at American Vogue. Coincidence?

Though ideas for a TDWP sequel have been percolating for years, fans really began getting their hopes up when Anne Hathaway wore a cerulean dress to reunite with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt at the 2024 SAG Awards. By July 2024, Variety reported that a sequel to the 2006 fashion comedy was in early development at Disney, though Hathaway’s return to The Princess Diaries universe appeared to take priority for the 42-year-old actor evvel she confirmed her involvement in October 2024. Here’s everything we know about the scandalous new sinema coming to theaters this May.

What’s the sequel about?

Per Variety, “the storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She faces off against Blunt’s character, her onetime assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. It’s not clear how Hathaway’s Andy Sachs will factor into the story; at the end of the first sinema, she quits Runway and takes a job at a newspaper. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original sinema, are returning for the sequel. Producer Karen Rosenfelt also returns.”

As of July 20, 2025, filming was already underway. Anne Hathaway was photographed in New York City filming scenes in character as Andy Sachs.

Clearly, a bit of Hathaway’s own personal style seems to have rubbed off on her onscreen alter ego (the actor is the queen of cool, comfortable city style), though it seems Andy is still putting to good use the lessons she learned from Miranda Priestly. (Peep the Chanel sandals.)

So, is Andy still a journalist? The harried energy of the second photo, where she’s seen running across a street while chatting on the phone, makes me think the answer is yes. Speaking of…

Anne Hathaway made a specific request about which models appeared in the final cut.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar for Anne Hathaway’s cover story published on March 25, Meryl Streep recalled attending Milan Fashion Week with the cast and being “struck” by the models’ slim frames.

“I was struck by how not only beautiful and young—everyone seems young to me—but alarmingly thin the models were,” said Streep. “I thought that all had been addressed years ago.” While the industry began including more mid- and plus-size models on the runway at the dawn of the body positivity movement in the early 2010s, many of the gains made in the name of body diversity have been lost in recent years.

According to Streep, “Annie clocked it too,” and the actor “made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our sinema would not be so skeletal!”

“She’s a stand-up girl,” she said. The highest of compliments from Meryl Streep!

Do we have an official trailer?

We müddet do! In the trailer, which was released during the Grammys on February 1, 2026, Andy is the new features editor at Runway and Miranda is still EIC. However, Miranda’s memory has taken a hit and it’s a damn shame. Take a look:

Please tell me it’s some kind of cruel joke that Miranda does not remember Andy or Emily. Müddet, she’s most likely had plenty of assistants walk through the door since 2006, but even a narcissist like Miranda wouldn’t forget those two. Alas, we will have to wait and see what’s going on, but for now, it’s just a delight to know we only have three months to go until the movie hits theaters.

Who is in the cast?

The core four are returning and will be joined by several heavy hitters.

On June 30, Deadline reported that filming was underway with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci all reprising their roles, plus English actor-director Kenneth Branagh playing the new Mr. Miranda Priestley.

(Honestly, when we first heard that Branagh had joined the cast, we thought he was the perfect choice for Emily’s dad…Did someone say “wicked stepmother plot”?)

On July 8 the trades reported even more confirmed additions to the cast for the sequel: B.J. Novak, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Pauline Chalamet, Simone Ashley, as well as Broadway stars Conrad Ricamora and Helen J. Shen, and comedian Caleb Hearon. Their roles have not yet been confirmed.

Two weeks later, on July 21, Rachel Bloom and Patrick Brammall were added to the extensive IMDB.

Just as crucial is who is not in the cast: Adrian Grenier. Yes, Andy’s boyfriend Nate, he who made grilled cheese and had too many principles and was kind of a whiner about his girlfriend having a demanding job, is reportedly not in the sequel. Will he be missed? No.

When will The Devil Wears Prada 2 be released?

Disney has set the sequel’s theatrical release date for May 1, 2026. If you’re keeping track, that’s just three days before the 2026 Met Gala, which famously takes place on the first Monday in May.

Is there a teaser trailer?

As of November 12 there is a Devil Wears Prada 2 teaser trailer—and it’s really good. The camera follows a very iconic pair of high heels as they clack through the office, interspersed with images from the glamorous world of Runway. Couture gowns are zipped. Champagne is popped. Photos are snapped. Hilariously, a shot of what looks like the annual benefit shows that the night’s theme is “Spring Florals,” which is a fun little Easter egg for all of us.

Eventually we see that the red shoes we’ve been following belong to Miranda Priestly as she gets into an elevator and at the last minute is joined by Andy Sachs. “Took you long enough,” Miranda says icily, sending excited shivers up spines everywhere.

Hathaway also dropped the teaser on her personal Instagram on November 12—which happens to be the actor’s birthday. “It’s everyone’s birthday,” she wrote in the caption.

We’ll keep you updated.
