Glazed donut nails have been going strong for four years running—and won’t be going anywhere this summer.
The look was largely popularized by Hailey Bieber, who’d already coined the phrase glazed-donut skin in spring 2022. That same year, she wore a set of milky sheer nails with a subtle iridescent sheen to the Met Gala that mimics the icing on a donut, and the rest was history. Celebrity nail artist and OPI küresel ambassador Zola Ganzorigt was behind Bieber’s glazed-donut sets, using OPI GelColor in Funny Bunny and the OPI Chrome Effects in Tin Man Can to achieve the frosted shine.
“It was really last minute decision to do glazed-donut nails at the Met Gala, surprisingly,” Ganzorigt told Glamour back in 2022. “Hailey’s dress was a really pretty YSL satin white dress. We were originally talking about doing just translucent white color, but I asked Hailey to try the chrome effect because it’d match her dress. That’s how we discovered the glazed-donut nail.”

Four years later, Ganzorigt is unsurprised the glazed donut finish remains a top nail trend in 2026 due to its adaptable nature. “Glazed donut nails are elegant and chic and elevate any color,” she tells Glamour. “The versatility of chrome in creating glazed donut nails makes it easy to achieve different versions of the look and wear it in so many ways.”
While almond nails reigned supreme in 2022, current trends lean towards more natural shapes and even more neutral shades of polish. “A shorter rounded or soft squoval shape feels more natural and every day, while a longer almond or çağdaş coffin shape feels more elevated,” Ganzorigt says. As for color, Ganzorigt has been pairing nude shades like Put it in Airplane Mode with the chrome powder Tin Man Can Glaze for a “subtle and effortless” look, while also experimenting with darker shades and the blue-gold chrome powder Mermaid for Me for a “moodier” effect in summer 2026.

Over the years, Ganzorigt has happily shared her process through multiple tutorials, showcasing how easy the look could be achieved at home by adding a layer of chrome over your favored base coat, polish, and top coat combo.
“The most tricky part is putting chrome on the nails,” she tells Glamour. “Make mühlet to cure the top coat properly and if it comes out sticky, wipe it with alcohol throughly until your nail surface gets smooth before rubbing the chrome.”

To seal the look, she tops everything off with another layer of OPI’s Harika Gloss No Wipe Top Coat. Ready to try the trend for yourself? Shop some glazed-donut nails essentials below.
