Shopping for bathing suits for large busts is notoriously rough: Between inconsistent sizing, wildly varying fits, and cuts that squish your figure into weird shapes, few activities feel more demoralizing than the trial-and-error of finding a swimsuit that supports your boobs. As a plus-size fashion influencer with M cups who loves the beach (I’m a triple water sign, after all), I’ve tried on hundreds of swimsuits over the years (not to mention bras for big boobs). I know that when it comes to DD+ cups, far too many suits bisect or flatten the bust, cause egregious spillover, or put you in danger of a wardrobe malfunction.
Fortunately, there are many genuinely great swimsuits for those of us who need more support up top, with cute styles and practical features like built-in bras, wider straps, and smart compression placement. To help narrow it down, I tested some of the most popular options on the market. Below, find the one-piece swimsuits and bikinis that actually worked for my bust—and will likely work for yours, too.

What we love: This viral swimwear brand for women really delivers the instant shaping it promises—and it looks good. I specifically wanted to see whether TA3’s skimpier Brazilian Plungey one-piece could actually work on fuller busts. A swimsuit that can go from relaxed to waist-snatched just by pulling some cords? I was skeptical, to say the least. But after trying one for myself, I was a convert: I felt lifted and supported in my usual swim size (2X), with only a tiny bit of side boob. TA3’s adjustable waistband let me lounge on the beach and play in the waves comfortably, then switch into bombshell mode in seconds by tightening the strings. I also appreciated thoughtful details, like corset strings that are anchored in place so they don’t accidentally come undone, plus tie ends placed at an accessible spot on the lower back—something I especially appreciated as someone with short arms whose reach is often blocked by my bust. The cheeky bottom, exposed corset back, and chic leopard print all make this a sexy suit that still feels functional.

Miraclesuit

What we love: This Miraclesuit tummy-control swimsuit delivers the noticeable shaping and smoothing the brand is known for without looking like a shapewear bodysuit. As someone who usually avoids bathing suits with compression, I did not expect to love this one-piece as much as I do. I’ve tried Miraclesuits before and liked them, but previously found the bust too small in my usual size 20W. Sizing up made a huge difference, and I quickly realized I’d been sleeping on one of the best suits on the market. Its shirring smooths my belly without feeling restrictive, while the built-in sculpting creates a natural-looking hourglass silhouette. The underwire bust support really impressed me: This was one of the only suits I tried where I didn’t have to remove the sewn-in bust padding to get enough cup depth. Overall, this is a fantastic classic one-piece if you want shaping, support, and a little extra confidence.

- Worth noting: Bust cups are not removable
- Sizing: 16W–24W (sizes 8–16 are available separately)

Best Bikini Top for 38+ Band Sizes: Elomi Plain Sailing Bikini Top

What we love: This is bra-sized swimwear from one of the few bra brands that truly specializes in larger cup sizes, and it absolutely shows in the fit. After trying on suit after suit with disappointing bust support, putting on this Elomi balconette bikini top felt like a big sigh of relief to put on. As someone with a 40M bust, finding a cute bikini top that truly fits already feels like a coup, let alone one this cute. Elomi offers a wide range of prints and silhouettes, all with built-in bra support, including options beyond standard triangle cuts. I also appreciated the bikini top’s back clasps that are both easy to fasten and secure—something I’ll never take for granted after having a bikini top pop open in the ocean!

Best Budget: Old Navy Pique V-Neck Halter Swimsuit

What we love: Affordable, true-to-size swimsuits for larger busts can be hard to find, especially if you do not want to spend a fortune on trendier styles with lighter compression and less heavy-duty support. I’m a big believer in having different swimsuits for different occasions. On active days, you might want underwire, strong tummy control, and sports bra–like support, while other days are all about lounging by the pool in a cute suit. I bought this one-piece long before I started working on this story, but it was such a good deal that I had to include it. String halters usually are not my first recommendation for fuller busts, yet I still felt surprisingly secure and contained in this style—even during my beach stress test of a quick jog. (That said, I would not recommend sustained running.) This is not my pick for major lift or high-impact activity, but I love it for casual beach days, pool lounging, or a resort vacation where you want to mix up your swimwear.
Fast facts
- Worth noting: No built-in shelf or underwire (for more lift, try the Ribbed Scoop-Neck Swim Top); moderate bottom coverage
- Sizing: XS–4X
- Material: 83% recycled poly, 17% spandex
Best One-Shoulder Swimsuit: Summersalt The Sidestroke

Summersalt Sidestroke Swimsuit
Summersalt

What we love: A one-shoulder swimsuit that actually works for full busts sounds like a fantasy, but Summersalt somehow pulled it off. I was highly skeptical because my chest is not only large but heavy, and most asymmetrical styles leave me looking like a lopsided mess. The ultra-popular Sidestroke’s innovative double cross-back strap design makes all the difference, distributing weight more evenly and keeping everything securely in place. I’ve tried both the classic paneled Sidestroke and this newer, more glamorous Bow Shoulder style, and found the lift and support nearly identical in both—so really, just go for the one that speaks to you the most.

- Worth noting: Size up one if you are an H cup or above for extra bust space

What we love: Full-coverage swimsuits have a reputation for looking dowdy or outdated, but this one from Andie feels genuinely çağdaş and stylish. One of the brand’s longtime best sellers, it strikes the perfect blend between form and function. The snap neckline is fully adjustable, giving me the option to wear it closed for more coverage, partially snapped for a hint of cleavage, or completely open for a more va-va-voom, pin-up–inspired look. I love the wonderfully wearable ribbed fabric both on and off the beach, styled as a bodysuit with shorts. Sewn-in underbust elastic helps keep even unruly boobs in place, and I can confirm this is a suit that holds up during beach sports and heavier activity when worn fully snapped.

- Worth noting: Tough to take on and off, as it’s quite compressive; Andie’s sizing differs from standard plus sizing, so check out its size chart

Best for Shaping: Spanxsculpt Square Neck One Piece

Spanxsculpt Square Neck One Piece
Spanx

What we love: If you want a smoothing swimsuit that does not give even a hint of shapewear, this sleek square-neck one-piece from Spanx is the perfect option. I tried this Baywatch-ready style in both my usual 2X and a 3X. While the 2X was too small through the bust for me, the 3X smoothed my belly and contoured my curves nicely. (If you are a DD cup or below, though, your usual size should likely work just fine.) The square neckline is especially flattering on fuller busts, and the wide straps distribute weight evenly, making this a comfortable choice for all-day wear.

Best String Bikini: Curvy Beach Triangle Top

Curvy Beach Triangle Top
Curvy Beach

What we love: Curvy Beach set the standard for string bikinis designed specifically for fuller busts, and years later, I still have not found much better. Founder Elizabeth Taylor created the brand to prove that very full busts can wear true triangle bikinis comfortably, without minimizing or disguising the body. I used to believe my chest always needed maximum lift and compression, so the idea of an unstructured string bikini terrified me. Then I put on my first Curvy Beach suit and immediately understood the hype. I’ve tried countless string bikinis since, but nothing else comes close for larger busts. The details make all the difference, from loops that help distribute breast weight more evenly to adjustable ruching that lets you customize coverage. I also love the flattering ruched back on the bottoms and the adjustable side ties. The quality is excellent, too: I bought my first Curvy Beach bikini in 2017, and it is the exact same one I’m wearing here.
Fast facts
- Worth noting: Size according to your cup size and desired coverage, as the back of the triangle top is a true string and fully adjustable; check out the official size chart for more visual references; cheeky bottom coverage in the side tie bikini bottoms
- Sizing: L–4X
- Material: 80% nylon, 20% spandex
Best Bikini Top for Smaller Band Sizes: Freya Jewel Cove

Freya Jewel Cove Bikini Top
Amazon
What we love: If Elomi’s lift and support sound appealing but you fall outside its size range, check out sister brand Freya, which specializes in fuller cups with more petite band sizing. I’m slightly above the top end of Freya’s size range, but still tried its top-rated Jewel Cove underwire bikini top to evaluate the construction and support firsthand. While my cup quite literally ranneth over, I was genuinely sad it didn’t fit, because this is a beautifully made bra-sized bikini top. The molded cups create a great shape, the sweetheart neckline looks fantastic on a fuller chest, and the bright azure blue is especially gorgeous in person. I’d definitely recommend this style to anyone with a smaller band size and a DDD+ cup who wants bra-like lift and support.

- Sizing: 28C–38H U.K. (28C–38K U.S.)

Best Tankini Top: Villa Fresca Wren Tankini Top

Villa Fresca Wren Tankini Top
Nordstrom
What we love: Finding a cool skirted tankini can feel like hunting for a mythical creature, but this new suit from the originator of the “fatkini” movement is a unicorn. While I have not personally tried this newly launched style from Gabi Gregg’s size-inclusive swim label Villa Fresca yet, I still had to include it. Gregg has been a plus-size swimwear icon for over a decade, and as someone with a fuller bust herself, she includes large-bust-friendly options in every collection. I’ve also found the suits have well-considered features for bigger breasts, like flat, wider, adjustable shoulder straps. If you’ve been wanting extra coverage without sacrificing style, this one is absolutely worth a try.
Fast facts
- Worth noting: Moderate coverage on the matching skirted bottoms
- Sizing: XS–4X
- Material: 82% nylon, 18% spandex
Frequently asked questions
Pay attention to brand size charts. Every swimwear brand has different fit proportions. Some are clearly designed with fuller busts in mind, while others work better for smaller chests. If you find a brand that fits you well evvel, there’s a good chance other styles from that brand will work, too
Focus on support, not just fit. A technically perfect fit—where the underwire lies flat and the center nazaran sits flush against the sternum—is ülkü, but it is not the only thing that matters. For styles without built-in bras, consider whether your bust feels secure, supported, and comfortable. Sometimes the swimsuit you feel best in is not the most technically perfect fit.
Don’t shy away from sizing up. Most swim fabrics have plenty of stretch and compression, so sizing up to accommodate a fuller bust will often still fit well through the rest of the body. And if your top and bottom measurements differ significantly, two-piece swimsuits make it much easier to mix and match sizes for the best fit.
Every swimsuit selected for testing was either from a brand I already had positive experience with or a highly recommended style specifically tested for this story. I wore each suit multiple times, including extended at-home wear tests to evaluate comfort and fit security, plus beach testing in real-life swim conditions. Every style was also subjected to a brief jog in the sand to confirm it stayed secure while moving. For swimsuits with removable pads or soft cups, I removed them before testing and photography—a simple trick that can create a little extra room through the bust.
