Lately, it seems a new celebrity bob haircut takes over social media every day—so if you’ve been toying with the idea of a big chop, now is the time to book the appointment. We’re rolling in bob-spiration for every hair type, texture, and vibe. The hardest part? Choosing from so many trendy styles.

“The bob is one of those timeless cuts that always comes back around. It just gets reinterpreted,” celebrity stylist Chris McMillan tells Glamour. “It can be worn sleek and tucked, flipped, messy, or even really textured and scrunched. It’s versatile, low effort, and çağdaş.” Best yet, the bob is one of the most universally flattering haircuts. It frames the face and can be easily customized to best flatter your features.

As for which cuts are dominating bob trends right now? Our favorite grandma-core style trends have inspired the granny bob—the cool-girl cut we’re rushing to get for summer. Fairy-coded bixie cuts, like Zendaya’s new chop, are also trickling down from runways, while ’90s-coded lobs are the low-maintenance cut du jour.

And while there’s no denying how cute and convenient short haircuts can be, it’s always important to do your homework before a big change. Here’s what you should know about the bob lifestyle before you make your salon appointment.

What is a bob haircut?

The most traditional bob is a short hairstyle cut at the neckline, typically following the shape of the jawline, says hairstylist Laurabeth Cabott. But in recent years the OG bob has been remixed dozens of times over. Technically, bob hairstyles can range from just-past-pixie to collarbone “lob” length. Depending on your hair’s texture and density, a bob of any length can be worn ultrasleek, voluminous, shaggy, braided…you name it.

There isn’t one best length for a bob, since what looks good primarily depends on your own personal taste. “Deciding whether you want a more chic style or something that you’re able to play around with and style differently from day to day can help you determine what length to cut your bob,” Cabbott says.

Which bob haircut is best for my face shape?

Since bob haircuts are crafted to frame the face, you can feel good about your chop knowing that there’s a style to flatter every face shape. “A classic bob haircut, where the length falls between the chin and shoulders, can look great on any face shape,” says celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Korab. “A bob can be customized with different lengths and textures to suit your individual style.”

For example, if you have a round face, Cabbott says that having a bob can help elongate your features. If you have an oval face, however, expert hairstylist and colorist Dan Williams recommends a chin-length blunt bob with waves. “You’re really going to want to accentuate the texture and pull the hair out a bit to complement someone’s elongated jaw,” he says.

For a heart-shaped face, which is defined as a broad forehead and cheekbones with a narrow jawline and chin, you might want to consider a short bob haircut that flips outward at the jaw. “What works best is a bob or lob-length cut that opens up the area around your narrow jawline,” says Michelle Cleveland, master color expert and owner of Hair Addict Salon. “Avoid short haircuts that close in the chin, such as a graduated bob.”

If you have a square or rectangular face, however, celebrity hairstylist Glenn Ellis recommends a shoulder-length French bob or a lob with blunt bangs. “People who have squarer faces tend to be recommended shorter cuts, since longer ones can accentuate the length rather than complement it,” he says.

How to maintain a bob haircut

Bobs can be harika low-maintenance, but if you’re opting for a blunt, sculpted look—or you want to maintain your short length long-term—it might require more upkeep than other styles.

“Having a bob requires some maintenance,” celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos says. “This means getting regular haircuts and/or dusting off your ends every four to six weeks to keep the look fresh.” That doesn’t mean it’s a high-maintenance style overall, though. “Your hair is already cut into the style, so you have to do is wash, blow-dry, and style as desired,” he says.

Granny Bob

All our favorite spring styles are borrowed from grandma’s closet (from floral dresses to comfy sandals), so it wasn’t long before hair trends followed suit. The granny bob is the perfect short haircut to test run during the warmer months. “It’s a version of the classic graduated bob, which features layers cut short at the nape and gradually getting longer to elegantly frame your head shape,” says hairstylist Kenna Kennor, founder of New York City hair salon Kennaland.

Modern Pageboy Bob

Margot Robbie set the tone when she chopped her long, romantic Wuthering Heights waves into a blunt bob with wispy bangs. Her cut puts a çağdaş spin on the shorter pageboy bob while maintaining the ’60s influence. When considering this cut, Elliot Bute, a stylist at London salon Hersheson, encourages “playing with different lengths—from chin-length to shoulder-length—and experiment with bangs, choosing a wavy or side-swept version instead of a traditional blunt fringe.”

Taylor Hill

’90s Lob

Tempted to revive the Rachel? Take advice from the original creator of the cut on how to wear it in 2026: “I always tell people to focus on length first, because that’s really where the ’90s bob lives,” McMillan says. “It’s that in-between zone—not too short, not too long, what we now call the lob. When styling this cut at home, a round brush and volumizing mousse are your friends.”

Marc Piasecki

Curly Bixie

The bixie cut—a combination of the bob and pixie—is a current celebrity favorite, and it’s easy to see why. Zendaya’s new bixie makes an excellent case for wearing your natural curls in a short crop. “I’m seeing a lot of celebrities opting for shorter, piecey layered and textured shapes,” celebrity hairstylist Kieron Justin tells Glamour. “We’ve seen it happening a lot on the runway, and then it filtered into mainstream with the return of the iconic pixie and the bixie.”

Feathered Bob

Asking for some face-framing layers in your bob can give you more runway for styling possibilities. For an ’80s-coded vibe that still feels current, try feathering out your layers away from your face.

    Cloud Curl Bob

Embrace and enhance your natural texture with a bob that lets your curls breathe. This cut is ülkü for cloud curls, which prioritize “curved, light, and airy texture” according to hairstylist Tom Smith. Without length weighing them down, your curly bob can form “a halo of gentle volume—less about defined ringlets and more about diffused texture and natural expansion,” Smith says. “The look is ethereal and floaty.”

    Bell Bob

Ideal for thick hair with natural texture, a bell-shaped bob emphasizes fullness at the ends. For easy styling and air-drying, crop your hair just above the shoulders with some soft layering. Your natural movement gets the spotlight, and the length will keep it looking ultrachic with minimal effort.

    Blunt Bob

Why mess with a classic? A blunt, single-length bob is one of the most customizable haircuts. It looks great with thin hair but can also accommodate texture. And with enough precision, it looks intentional at any length. When cutting a blunt bob, McMillan says, he avoids tension and trims freehand instead. “Be very aware of cowlicks and growth pattern with this cut,” he advises.

    ’90s Supermodel Bob

The ’90s-supermodel bob is high payoff, low commitment. “The cut has the line and length of the bob, but the top layers have much more texture, so it’s lighter on top and easier to flip around,” says celebrity hairstylist Marc Mena, who says the ’90s supermodel bob is the easiest—and chicest—way to instantly add volume and texture to short hair.

    Slicked Microbob

Ready for a chop that’’s effortlessly cool—in every sense of the word—for summer? This chop hits just around the jawline, which makes it feel cuter, says Luke Hersheson, cofounder of hair brand and salon Hershesons. Slightly more daring in shape than other types of bobs, it’s the perfect cut for anyone who’s sick of long hair.

    Soft Swing Bob

Emma Stone has served up haircut inspiration at every phase of her pixie grow-out journey, but her soft swing Oscars bob might take the cake. With this cut, the trick is maintaining both fullness and movement in the ends, as Stone’s stylist Mara Roszak emphasized: “For the Oscars, I wanted a ’90s blowout with soft movement in Emma’s bob, keeping it feeling fresh, çağdaş, and full,” she said in a press release. “The look was polished but effortless—soft volume, subtle bend, natural volume, and subtly brushed through.”

    Taylor Hill

    Flipped-Out Bob

Lots of blown-out bobs involve turning your ends under to create a bulbous effect, but Olandria Carthen reminded us that flipping your layers out can be even more fun. Ask for chunky layers and don’t skimp on the texture spray when recreating this look.

    Instagram @cervandohair

    Angled Bob

If you have straight or fine hair, opting for a subtly angled or A-line bob (with slightly more length and weight in the front pieces) is an easy way to add body to your cut. Stylist Cervando Maldonado shared his rendition of the cut on Phoebe Dyvenor, highlighting how much sleek movement the technique creates no matter how the hair is parted.

    Retro Bob

The silhouette of a ’60s-inspired bob tucked behind the ears looks effortlessly elegant. To create Selena Gomez’s expertly sculpted shape, hairstylist Renato Campora created soft curls with a blowout brush and curling iron before setting the ends inward using Joico Humidity Blocker+ Protective Finishing Spray.

    Soft Structured Bob

For a more lived-in and textured look, Sean Michael, owner of Salon Beau, anticipates lots of soft-structured lobs and bobs in 2026. “This style is a longer bob that hits around the collarbone, but instead of sharp, blunt ends, the edges are slightly softened and curved,” he says. “It keeps some structure so it doesn’t look messy, but the ends have a bit more movement so the hair naturally falls into place. The overall look is smooth and clean, just not overly precise.”

    Amy Sussman

    Shaggy Lob

“I’ll always have a place for the çağdaş shag revival,” says Giannetos, who predicts the shaggy lob will be one of the biggest haircut trends of 2026. “My version is refined with layers and a little rock star energy without looking messy. It gives hair movement, looks amazing in photos, and has that editorial edge I love,” he says. As a bonus, this bob spin-off is one of the most universally flattering cuts you can get. “Depending on your hair texture, the shag is a cut that can be worn extremely messy or seamlessly straight,” says stylist Anh Co Tran.

    Neil Mockford

    Sculptural Part

Who says bobs have to be limited when it comes to styling? Whatever potential you lose in length, you can make up for with a spotlight-stealing artistic part. Cardi B made an excellent case for the attainably avant-garde bob at Paris Fashion Week: Her stylist Mia Jackson (Tokyo Stylez) traded a razor-straight part for a sloping one, and slicked down one side of the rapper’s hair to accentuate the shape.

    Mike Marsland

    Micro Bangs bob

Micro bangs are the edgy-meets-vintage trend celebs like Lily Allen, Ayo Edebiri, and Ella Purnell are using to set the tone for 2025, and there’s no better cut to complement them than a blunt bob.

    Partial Braided Bob

Bobs are never boring—but if you like to add some extra flair, take notes from Glamour Woman of the Year Tyla’s red-carpet do. She added microbraids to a section around her side part (which is also back in a big way for 2026) and left her midlengths and ends undone for a çağdaş look.

    Steve Granitz

    Itty Bitty Bob

Months after the season three finale of The White Lotus, we’’re still thinking about Leslie Bibb’s “c-nty little bob.” Eddie M. Parra, celebrity hairstylist and senior stylist at Benjamin Salon New York, says that Bibb was one of the most popular celebrity hair references his clients brought in in 2025, and the trend shows no sign of slowing down in the new year. Luckily, celebrity stylist Chris McMillan posted a görüntü of his technique for trimming this ultraprecise short style for you to bring to your own salon.

    Loc Bob

Locs look extra chic paired with a chin-length bob. Hairstylist Vernon Francois added extensions for the blunt shape, then applied Olaplex products to create this “messy yet polished” texture for Lupita Nyong’o.

“I massaged in Olaplex Nº.7 Bonding Oil from midlengths to ends for shine and hydration, brushing it through to evenly distribute and prep the hair,” says Francois. “The oil added shine, reduced frizz, and provided heat protection, ensuring the bob looked sleek yet touchable. Then I used a hairdryer to seal in the products. Lastly, I flatironed the hair to define texture and structure, squeezing sections for a unique finish.”

    Old Hollywood Bob

The Old Hollywood bob has ruled the red carpet, with everyone from Zendaya to Selena Gomez joining in on the trend. To get Zendaya’s voluminous look, stylist Coree Moreno used hair rollers and set the shape with GHD Helios Hair Dryer, then touched up the curls with the Curve Classic Curl Iron. To get long-lasting and voluminous curls, he added prestyled Bellami Silk Seam Clip-In Extensions and finished off with the Nexxus Epic Shine Anti Humidity Spray and Nexxus Comb Thru Flexible Hold Hair Spray.

    Classic Bob

The classic bob is quite literally the blueprint, so it’s nearly impossible to go wrong. “I will always vouch for a classic bob cut,” says Giannetos. “With a classic bob haircut, the length falls between the chin and shoulders. I love this length because it can look great on any face shape. The beauty of the bob is that it can be versatile. I personally love the look of a classic, clean, and even-length bob.”

    Instagram/@jacobrozenberg

    Box Bob

Offering a more çağdaş take on the most classic bob shape, the box bob is a box-shaped chop with blunt ends, clean lines, and little to no layering.

    French Bob

The French bob is probably the second most popular bob after the classic bob. Chin-grazing, tousled, and styled with bangs, it’s essentially the çağdaş take on the iconic haircut of the title character from the 2001 sinema Amélie.

    Instagram/@hairinel

    Bubble Bob

Airy, voluminous, and, well, round and bubbly, a bubble bob is the ülkü way to ensure voluminous hair all day long. For extra dimension, try it paired with a subtle balayage.

    Instagram/@rickymotahair

    Baroque Bob

Quiet-luxury-inspired hairstyles are getting louder—and bigger. According to hairstylist Francesca Inverarity, the “baroque bob is all down to the blow-dry and finish,” she says. “It’s a simple but structured cut that is styled into voluminous sculpted waves.”

Supermodel Elsa Hosk has been wearing the look as of late. According to her hairstylist Ricky Mota, the key to styling is volumizing products like Unite Expanda Volume, a targeted spray foam that adds lift, volume, and hold directly to the root, and Texturiza Spray to add instant volume, fullness, and definition.

    Instagram/@jennychohair

    ’90s Bob

Reminiscent of Cameron Diaz in the ’90s as well as the haircut popularized by Posh Spice, the ’90s bob is a texturized take on A-line bob. “The standout feature of this haircut is the center part,” says Aimee McDonnell, co-owner at Blue Tit’s salon. “The shape is a classic A-line bob with no layering, just some weight removed at the ends to ensure the bob tucks under nicely and avoids a triangular finish.”

    Instagram/@shenisesheena_beauty

    Sleek Bob

The secret to the sleek bob is styling. “There is something so powerful about a woman who can rock such a sleek look,” says celebrity hairstylist Shenise Sheena, who is a fan of the trending sleek bob. “I think a sleek, shiny hairstyle like this is a must-try for the upcoming season because it exudes confidence.”

Sheena created the look for Carmella Rose, styling the chop with 7Seconds Detangler for a tangle-free base and 7Seconds Glossing Spray to tame flyaways and add long-lasting high shine.

    Old Money Bob

Another example of how quiet luxury has come for our hair, the old money bob haircut plays into the “old money aesthetic” while being fairly low-maintenance to style. “This cut is all about fullness and body,” says London hairstylist Suzi Angelina. “The volume at the root gives an expensive feel, while the blunter ends offer a more sophisticated twist.”

When getting the cut, “it’s important to keep a full perimeter, focusing any soft shaping just around the face,” she says. “Doing so helps the hair appear thicker throughout the ends, while still having movement around the face for that eye-catching bounce and body.”

    Instagram/@jacobrozenberg

    Asymmetrical Bob

Asymmetrical bobs like the inverted bob are making a huge comeback, according to Jessica Neil from KH Hair. “This all-time favorite is a great style as it can suit all different face shapes and hair textures, depending on which length or style of asymmetric haircut you go for,” she says.

    Instagram/@krisstudden

    Modern French Bob

For a more çağdaş take on the French bob, try something a little longer with face-framing layers and curtain bangs. Think Amélie, but maybe while on vacation.

    Instagram/@aimeesong

    Sliced Bob

Authentic Beauty Concept advocate and celebrity hairstylist Justin Toves-Vincilione points to the sliced bob as another chic bob to consider. “It makes a huge statement with its strong, blunt shape and dense ends,” he says. “This haircut is similar to a blunt bob but left even chunkier on the ends to maximize the illusion of volume and density. This look can work for all hair types but is best for individuals with thick hair.”

    Instagram/@harryjoshhair

    Butterfly Bob

The butterfly bob is another especially on-trend chop, which Maxine Salon hairstylist Jenna Spino defines as “heavily layered and feathered, featuring shorter layers on top of the head and through the crown.” These shorter layers slightly resemble butterfly wings, hence the cut’s cute name.

“The short layers on top are blended through to longer layers on the bottom,” Spino says of the chop. “The shorter layers fall at or below the chin, and the longer layers fall just past the shoulders.” As a result, this adds tons of texture, movement, and volume to the hair.

    Instagram/@claytonhawkins

    French Lob

If the French bob is a little too short or dramatic for your taste, you can test the waters with a French lob. Ellis especially loves this medium-length haircut for people with square and rectangular face shapes. “I recommend shoulder-length or shorter,” he says. “A kaç lob is great or even a shorter French bob.”

    Instagram/@dimitrishair

    Italian Bob

Known for its airiness and styling ease, the Italian bob is the French bob’s European cousin. As for how it’s different? It’s longer and bouncier with more layers, a look Giannetos created for influencer and model Meredith Duxbury’s blonde bob and wavy hair.

    Instagram/@jacobrozenberg

    The “Petit” Bob

Dubbed the sassy sister to the French girl bob, the petit bob is a great option for those growing out a severe crop, says celebrity hairstylist and Evo Hair international color creative director Tom Smith.

“It creates angles and contours, which is exactly what the awkward stages of growing out short hair lack,” he says. “If your hair texture is finer or has thinned out over time, this cut is one of the best cuts you could opt for to increase the visual thickness and bulk of your hair.”

    Coily Bob

Keeping your natural curls healthy and hydrated is key. A curl cream like Pattern Beauty Styling Cream or a leave-in conditioner like Adwoa Melonberry Hair Milk can be used on both wet and dry hair to condition strands.

    Sharp Curly Bob

Curls also look great in a sharp bob. It’s all about playing up angles. And don’t forget the wispy bangs and strong side part, which add even more visual interest.

    Instagram/@kimkardashian

    Rounded Bob

The rounded bob is certainly having a moment—Kim, Khloé, and Kylie have all tried the style on for size. “A rounded bob is fantastic because it flatters nearly every face shape,” says celebrity hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons, who loves this cut for its retro look. The best length, he says, depends on which features you want to highlight.

    Box-Braid Bob

There are endless ways to style a braided bob hairstyle. One of our favorites? Add multicolored beads to the ends to give the overall look a younger, more playful vibe.

    Fulani Braids Bob

Fulani braids don’t have to be long. As Danai Gurira proves, they look incredible when they hit just above your shoulders. Flared ends make the style even cooler.

    Kevin Winter/Getty

    Full Curls

Size does matter, and when it comes to curly hair, stylists agree that bigger is better. “Together, the length and shape of the cut help to build really stunning volume for natural girls,” says César DeLeön Ramîrez, Mizani küresel artistic director and celebrity stylist. On Kerry Washington, her hair’s soft rounded shape sets this apart from your average lob.
