Taylor Swift just wore the most romantic summer hairstyle that any novice can achieve.
On May 12, Swift attended Lena Dunham’s West Village birthday dinner wearing an outfit that fits right into her latest era. As she prepares for her upcoming wedding (allegedly taking place this July), Swift has mastered the arka of incorporating white pieces into her wardrobe without looking like she’s playing dress up. Just last month, this came in the form of a chic satin maxi skirt she paired with a simple black tank top, stiletto sandals, and Dior’s Small 30 Montaigne Avenue Top Handle Bag. Now, she’s continuing to prove the classic black and white dressing is the key to a striking pre-bridal look.
This time, Swift combined a white knit Retrofête küçük dress with black accessories, including classic black sling-backs by Gucci and a quilted Dior D-Motion Bag. While those additions come with hefty price tags, the Devika Knit Dress itself retails for $398 and combines two of Swift’s favorite styles and silhouettes: a long-sleeve mock neck and pleated skirt.
However, the unexpected piece that literally tied this look together may already be sitting in one of your kitchen drawers. To cap off her look, Swift tied a long black satin ribbon into a bow around her ponytail, adding a romantic detail that can be emulated for under cilt dollars.
In this case, Swift opted to let the strands of her bow hang well past her ponytail, giving the hair accessory a veil-like quality without distracting from the rest of her look.
As someone who loves makeup and clothes but lacks the technique to do much with my hair beyond a subtle wave with a curved straightening iron, I can attest that using a ribbon to hide your elastic band is the easiest way to elevate an updo without resorting to a slick-back.
All you do is wrap the ribbon around the base of your ponytail a couple times and tie it into a bow! That’s literally it. Still too complicated? A satin bow barrette can create the same effect in seconds. Exibit A:
