On May 13, the 33-year-old pop star attended Dior’s exclusive cruise show in Los Angeles, bucking resort wear norms with a double-denim look with sleek black accessories with cool silver hardware. Despite the pants and long sleeves, there’s still a summer feel to this somewhat rebellious look. Instead of opting for darker denim, for example, Cyrus wore an airy pair of light-wash jeans with a matching chambray shirt.
Yes, let me repeat: Cyrus is wearing a chambray shirt, the style of denim button-up nearly every millennial paired with their skinny jeans in the mid-2010s.

To add to the breezy summer feel of her look, Cyrus wore her loose denim top unbuttoned right to her sternum, forgoing any necklaces in favor or bold aviator sunglasses. Her blonde hair was left in relaxed waves with a bit of salty texture, creating a care-free aesthetic from head-to-toe.

Unlike a denim work shirt, a chambray button-up is defined by a soft, light-weight cotton fabric with a relaxed, worn-in feel. They dominated millennials’ closets in the mid 2010s, fitting into every niche aesthetic from preppy to hipster. Having worked at Madewell on Newbury Street throughout college, I personally sold (and purchased) more chambray shirts than any other item in the store.
It wasn’t particularly difficult, as chambray shirts were as comfortable as they were versatile. They can be dressed up with a chic skirt and chic jewelry, or down with a pair of denim, preferably in the same wash. And yes, accessorizing often included ankle boots and black fedoras.
By pairing hers with loose, straight-leg denim, Miley Cyrus proved that Hannah Montana isn’t the only thing worth reviving in 2026. Whether you pair it with a pair of wide leg denim like Miley, a trendy slip dress, or a cargo short, the chambray shirt is still that girl in 2026.
